Educational Programs:
BOOKMAKING

Looking for a place where your students can be imaginative, creative, learn, and have fun. Local children's author, Kim D. Nelson, will be teaching a hands-on course for children within the schools for 3rd-6th grades.

  • Hands-on experience with a real author
  • Create books while learning the many steps used in the writing, illustrating,
    and publishing process.

Be Imaginative!

It is an exciting program for students in grades third through sixth. Other grade levels will be considered. In this mini course, the students learn many concepts to publishing a book. In the course, they create their own unique stories with very personable characters, learn how to use different illustrating tools and create illustrations to complement their stories, format their own books (sewn bound) with a rights page, a dedication, and a section about the author/illustrator, learn about the importance of a storyboard and layout and actually layout their own books, and then the students get to put all the pieces together to form a memorable keepsake.

Oh by the way, using your imagination in this course is a must. And having fun while creating!

The course requires three half days. The first two classes are for 3 to 3.5 hours and the last class is for 4 hours. The course is open to students in the third through sixth grade, with a maximum limit of 15 students. All materials and travel are covered in the cost of the course. Maximum travel distance one way is 120 miles. The cost of the bookmaking course is $1,500.00.

If you are interested in signing your school up for the course, contact Kim Nelson at KDNelson@raffandfriends.com for date availability.
